Bible Study Takeaways
Why am I tempted to relapse on drugs and alcohol?  What can I do when I feel like I cannot resist the relapse?

Takeaways to Consider:

  1. God does not tempt us but He does test us because He wants our faith to be in Him and not in our own “righteousness.”

  2. When we are tempted by the devil, God will give us a way to out of that temptation.

  3. Verse to Remember:    “12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” 1 Corinthians 10: 12-13  New Living Translation (NLT)

Takeaways to Consider:

  • Every day is a battle against the devil and evil.  The devil’s primary mission is to have you fall and not get back up.  Since we are in a battle, we need to arm ourselves so that when we are in a moment of warfare, we will be able to pull out our “ammunition” – the Word of God – and fight the opposition.

  • Verse to Remember:  Psalm 91:1-6

1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most Hig

will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
3 For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
4 He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.

  • Verse to Remember: Matthew 4:1-11

“1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be

tempted there by the devil.

2 For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry.

3 During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the

Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.

4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,

‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes

from the mouth of God.’

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest

point of the Temple,

6 and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say,

‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with

their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’

7 Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test

the Lord your God.

8 Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain

and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

9 “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”

10 “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say,

You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’

11 Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.”

  • Verse to Remember: James 1: 12-15

12 God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation.

Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised

to those who love him. 13 And remember, when you are being

tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to

do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. 14 Temptation comes

from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These

desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow,

it gives birth to death.
